Bought in 1927 the prevent it's demolition, it then
became a property of the Sussex Archaeological Society, who
in the 1930's were instrumental in preventing the the destruction of much of
Tarring village for road 'improvements'
- a bypass was built instead, the present Rectory Road.
Operated as a museum of rural live until in 1988 it became a restaurant after
much heart searching over its future
The lessee Wayne Lowrey has succeeded in running a business
within an ancient monument,
not an easy task in these days of onerous regulation.
No doubt the purist would baulk at some of the changes necessary, but for a
building to survive it must adapt,
particularly as the alternative was an uncertain future.
The structure appears well cared for, possibly it is in the best condition it
has been for some hundreds of years.
The restaurant is open daily for Lunches and dinners and outside catering
